The Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH (11663) represents a significant evolution in Leica’s iconic 35mm line. Compared to its predecessor, the 11874, the 11663 introduced a floating element (FLE) design, greatly improving sharpness and contrast at close focusing distances while maintaining the lens’s signature rendering. Produced from 2010 to 2022. The fast f/1.4 aperture allows for striking subject separation with smooth, natural background blur, and the updated optical formula ensures consistent performance across the frame. It was later succeeded by the 11726, which retained the same optical design but added an integrated, retractable lens hood, 11 aperture blades instead of 9 and close focus to 0.4m instead of 0.7m on the 11663.
